ROMFORD KNOCKOUT SINGLES - BTBA ADULT RANKING EVENT
The first of several National events to be played at City Pavilion RollerBowl Collier Row Romford Essex in the next few weeks.
The entry of 57 men and 20 ladies was bolstered by Team England Junior Squad entering 24 young players.
LADIES - Jenny Billingham – Winner - and Hayley White – Runner-up. MEN – Steve Thornton – Winner – and Mike Quarry – Runner-up. MEN
In the first six qualifying games Steve Miller led the field including a 300 and 289 game for 290 over 1490 - Elliott Crosby came out the traps at a million miles an hour and with a million revs to hit first three games of 279 299 257 for a six game total of 278 over at 1478 - Robert Harding 250 over for 1450 - Mike Quarry also had a 279 for a total of 219over for 1419 – Adam Cairns -202over for 1402 -Steve Thornton 173over including a 279 game for 1373.
Dean Baker made the highest placed Romford League Bowler with 168 over for 1368. Ben Harvey made the second highest placed Romford League Bowler with 132 over for 1332.
This left behind the few other Romford and Essex bowlers who played the event including surprisingly both local high league scorers Lee Cocker and Matt Forsyth.
On to Round Two for a further three games to get to the top four and overall top twelve now led by Elliot Crosby for a total of 2195 – Mike Quarry 2145 – Robert Harding 2142 – and Steve Thornton 2086 to be seeded into the second round of the final whilst the other eight played head to head matches. The cut for the final was Adam Purnell on 2016.
Some great scoring and great head to head matches saw Matt Miller hit 299 to beat Mike Quarry with 279 and in the same match Mike Quarry hitting 279 again to beat Matt Miller 558 to 511!
In the final two game match Steve Thornton hit 267 and 248 against Mike Quarry 225 – leaving him 42 behind - and then 268 to scrape back part of the deficit – but not enough! All in all some great head to head bowling and someone had to win and Steve Thornton was the champion. LADIES
First round leaders were Hayley White 253 over with final two games of 278 and 279 for 1453 - Autum Chamberlain hit 802 over the first three games with 277 245 280 and was 204 over for 1404 - Jenny Billingham – 172 over for 1372 - Keira Ray – 161 over for 1361 - Lauren Husband – including a 277 game 93 over for 1293.
The cut was to ten players and moved on for another three games to cut to two seeded to the second round and four to play one another. The cut for the final was Hannah Frost on 1947.
Some great scoring by Jenny Billingham 279 and 259 for 538 beat Keira Reay 235 and 229 total 464. Hayley White beat Autum Chamberlain 460 to 433.
Then the final and Jenny Billingham hit 234 to Hayley White 186. In the second game Hayley White powered on for 259 but Jenny Billingham hung on for 216 to win 450 to 445. Later in the year in October RollerBowl Romford is also hosting the BTBA Senior Inter-Counties Finals that have of recent years been played at Peterborough .
